I'm doing the Biotin, Selenium, multi-vitamins, and I have the Nioxin ordered (they don't sell it around here) and I don't know what else to do. ha Glad you figured it out. One thing I have noticed is that the Topamax seems to have caused my hair to fall out in two ways: First it is thinning from my scalp. The ends fray. My neuro implied that taking Selenium helps to prevent it. The spots NEVER went away. I'm still going to see my GP and get his opinion, but I'm only 40(just) not in menopause yet, so it's not hormones that are making my hair fall out, and it's falling from the scalp because it is full lenghts and has the folicle at the end. I'm sure you can do a similar routine using good quality products. I'm getting the best results with this situation. I use Nioxin Shampoo, Frederik Fekaai (sp?) It's been said that increasing the dosage slowly is one way to avoid s/e's and lower dosages keeps s/e's at bay. However, in your case because of the hair loss, I too would hesitate to try it in the first place. !Ladies, as I'm sitting here reading these new posts, I'm getting physically sick over them. I would have skipped. It was really really bad; I got that sick faint feeling in the pit of my stomach every time. This med has a lot of weird side effects and hair loss is a potential for one of them. (There's a shampoo called Sebastian Double that makes your hair look thicker and I use this sometimes as well). :(i'm actually familiary with nioxin. The water couldn't go through the drain, there was so much hair clogging it up each and every time I washed my hair. Now I wonder what I should do... Vitamins or Shampoo? i've used it sporadically in the past. I was speaking to my pharmacists ( a woman) and I asked her about it and she mentioned she had a customer come in and had that problem. I look fire-damaged and awful. I think everyone should take only small dosages of Topamax because there seems to be too many s/e's associated with it. Do you think it could be the Topa? Thanks. I can't stand this. It works so wonderfully on the migraines, but the hair was coming out in huge wads, running down both arms in the shower. Scary! However, in your case because of the hair loss, I too would hesitate to try it in the first place. I am going through something like that now. But omg. I would also take increases very slowly and in small increments. Being migraine free is great but the thought of being being bald is too scary a thought for me. I have been on Topamax 150mg a day and Candasartan 32mg a day for a year now. My neuro's nurse had asked me to please give the Topa a chance, she was so sure it would help me, but I just cut my hair (I have been cutting my own hair for years) and it was like cutting something dead. I've been trying to figure out what has been causing my hair loss and just did a search and put together it must be the topamax. The less I wash, the more stays on my head. Please keep in touch; I will let you all know what my neuro suggests; there is usually a several-week wait to get an appointment, so it will probably be early 2006. I've had to take SEVERAL other meds and have been to SEVERAL other docs just because of Topamax. It is dry and thin.

With enough research, I have found dozens of people online who post about the same thing. One other thing, you girls might want to be careful with, if your dr.s reccomen taking Minoxidol ( the oral rx for alopecia) which is also used to lower blood pressure, becareful it may also cause facial hair growth.
