I use flecainide successfully, and am greatful for it keeping me in NSR, however I do not want to take it forever. When the dose was reduced this stopped. The 4 month old pacemaker for SSS keeps HR from dropping too low which also helps the balance issue. That was last October and I've been in constant AF ever since. Also a mild headache.
I was told that it does become ineffective with time and the only option was to increase dosage. After the procedure I was on Flecainide 100 x 2, Metoprolol 50 x 2 In December my dose of Flecainide was decreased from 100 x 2 to 50 x 2 because I was having a sharp pain in my head (not a headache) with numbness ion my face. When I wean off flecainide I hope my symptoms will be minimal.

Evidence summary. I have started to feel that there is little benefit as in March alone I was in Af on at least 14 different days. So when I later decided on my own to drop it altogether and take the PIP approach, I was obviously taking a risk (but fortunately with no bad effects so far). Other than that 2 to 3 years in between and currently 3 1/2 years. Oh and I have had no dizziness since I’ve gone down to 25mg 2 x a day. Yes, that's how I did it prior to starting up with Sotalol.
Some people shave off small bits of the pill, increasing the amount shaved off until nothing is left. I am to wear compression socks until my next appointment. The Dr. said I can consider stopping the Flecainide completely now, but I am not sure I want to do that. I am weaning off Flecainide by taking 50 mg Flecainide twice a day for one week (toprol not changed yet), which I have just completed doing without any effects. If I raised the dose I'd probably need a pacemaker....or that might be the point to consider an ablation. I have had a headache, feel like crap, chest discomfort and exhausted. My first conversion not on flecianide cpap or mag supplements only lasted 10 days. I just became a grandmother for the first time, so I am happy for the clear head and a little more energy!

As I don't like being on medication, I decided to wean myself off. I take 50 mg twice a day and have noticed balance problems but never connected it with Flecainide. I am on a path to be "drug free" post ablation.
My cardio tends to give neither.I'm very interested in your feeling that Flecainide is messing with your head. Had a circumferential pulmonary vein isolation ablation (all four veins done) in May and happy to report that afib episodes have ceased. Medication got that under control, and I really had few symptoms for several years (while my heart valves were slowly deteriorating....). Some split it into smaller pieces, taking 7/8 of a pill, then 3/4, then 5/8 and so on.
